Climate

Climatically, the protected area lies within the hyper-arid provinces with a mild winter and a hot summer. Rainfall is low and confined to one season (mostly winter). Average rainfall is very variable; certain years have rainfall above 50 mm and others completely dry. 

Temperature is regular in its seasonality; winter months are cool and summer months are hot. Lowest minimum temperature is about 5°C (night time in Jan and Feb) while the maximum is around 45°C (mid-day time in July and Aug). Wind is an important abiotic factor that influences the dynamics of arid and semiarid systems. Average records for wind speed in the protected areas are between 5.9 meter/second. (May) and 3.6 meter/second (December).
